St. Matthew's Church in East Stroudsburg will hold it's annual Block Party on the parish grounds from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9, and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10. The Block Party will feature live music from The Sidekicks on Friday, Darren Doll DJ on Saturday, and Sam Nardi on Sunday, as well as bingo, children and adult games, a white elephant sale, American, Italian, Polish and Hispanic foods, and booths featuring gift baskets and tricky trays. Carbon County FairCarbon County FairWednesday, Aug. 6 to Sunday, Aug. 10 The Carbon County Fair will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6 through Sunday, Aug. 10 at the at the fair grounds on Little Gap Rd. Hours are 3 to 11 p.m. The fair will feature the crowning of the Fair Queen, Quarter Midget racing, a 4 Wheel Drive Tuff Truck Challenge, a Firemen's Competition, and Mountain Karate Exhibition. Displays and daily judging of livestock, as well as a livestock sale on Saturday are also scheduled, as well as Chinese auctions and bingos throughout the week. Midway rides, carnival attractions, Dapper Dan the Clown, Smokey the Bear, and Farmer for a Day entertain on the midway. Entertainment includes Donna Parsons on Wednesday evening, The Moore Brothers on Thursday evening, and Remember When, David Westrip, and Wag Staff and Company will be featured on Friday evening. Saturday entertainment includes Brian Xander and the Glenn Miller One Man Band, along with The Cramer Brothers, who will open for country legend Gene Watson. Closing the fair on Sunday will be Brian Xander and the Evangelaires and Olde Friends, followed by the Marvelettes. The Demolition Derby will be held in the arena at 7 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Sunday. A horse show will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, and ride specials will run from 4 to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Children ages 10 and younger are admitted free every day. Admission includes musical and midway entertainment. Extra charge applies for arena events. From Stroudsburg, take Route 209 to Forest Inn Rd., just past Country Junction, bear left onto Little Gap Rd. Fair grounds are 3 miles on right. Sherman Theater launches Capital 30 CampaignThe Sherman Theater is asking for the communtiy's support in the expansion and renovation of the Sherman and it's historic surroundings. If each community resident and Sherman patron pledged $30, it would ensure the finalization of the theaters completion. Supporters will recieve a Cap30 silicone wristband. The Sherman has hosted numerous sold out events including the Vienna Choir Boys, Bob Weir and Ratdog and Weird Al Yankovic. Donations are now being accepted online and at the Sherman Theater box office.
