Op 23 en 24 april 2008 worden in Brussel algemene informatiedagen gehouden over de tweede call van het CIP-ICT PSP programma. Het ICT PSP programma wil innovatie en concurrentievermogen in Europa stimuleren door middel van een breder en beter gebruik van ICT door burgers overheden en bedrijfsleven. En als het Nederlands elftal Europees kampioen wordt zijn wij de beste. Het oranje-gevoel is een duidelijk en bekend wij-gevoel. Het wij-gevoel is vaak een vorm van trots. Trots op je land je taal je religie en de cultuur. Iedereen geeft een eigen invulling aan het wij-gevoel. Trots op God of Allah op klederdracht of hoofddoek op het Fries of het Twents. Neemt de trots toe als vele culturen dicht bij elkaar leven?<br /><br />Tijdens acht avonden tussen 1 en 23 april in Amsterdam en Zwolle komen allerlei reacties aan bod op Onze trots. Wat bindt en verdeelt ons op het gebied van sport kleding religie en taal? Voor elke avond zijn twee sprekers uitgenodigd. De eerste gaat in op de gevoelens van trots op taal religie sport of kleding. De tweede spreker belicht de nieuwe vormen van trots die ontstaan door het samenleven van zeer verschillende groepen.<br /><br />Op 23 april zijn  Herman Roodenburg (onderzoeker Kleding en Lichamelijkheid Meertens Instituut KNAW) en Hester Dibbits (onderzoeker Nederlandse Etnologie Meertens Instituut KNAW) te gast. Zij gaan in op het thema `Kleding'. Moderator: Jan van der Stoep (postdoc onderzoeker faculteit Wijsbegeerte Vrije Universiteit).<br /><br />Onderdeel van deze serie is ook een seminar over de stad en haar diversiteit dat plaatsvindt op 3 april.

Debatkamer Overijssel organiseert samen met EU-ambassadrice Thea van Schaik uit Ommen op donderdag 24 april om 19.00 uur een debat in het Provinciehuis in Zwolle over de (on)bekendheid van de EU in de maatschappij. De Europese Unie is voor veel mensen een ver-van-m'n-bed-instituut in Brussel en Straatsburg. Maar veel mensen hebben geen idee wat de Europese Unie allemaal betekent en op welke processen zij allemaal invloed hebben.<br />Na de tweede Wereldoorlog sloot Nederland samen met een aantal andere landen een overeenkomst dat ervoor zou zorgen dat er geen oorlog meer zou komen in Europa. Dit was het begin van de Europese Unie. Tegenwoordig zorgt de Europese Unie er onder meer voor dat interne handel veel gemakkelijker verloopt waardoor de prijzen laag blijven. Voor de gewone burger heeft de Europese Unie dus rechtstreeks invloed op bijvoorbeeld de prijs van een pakje boter de beltarieven of de mogelijkheid om in elk EU-land te mogen werken. Maar ook op de beslissing of we ergens militairen naartoe sturen om de vrede te bewaren.<br /><br />Er is ook veel kritiek op de Europese Unie. Processen verlopen traag er wordt in de ogen van veel mensen geld verspild met de tweewekelijkse verhuizing van Brussel naar Straatsburg het is een onoverzichtelijk instituut de mensen die er werken zijn onbekend en men weet niet hoe de Europese Unie te bereiken is.<br /><br />Debatkamer wil De Europese Unie bekendheid geven. Want we kunnen wel net doen alsof de Europese Unie er niet is maar dan steken we ons hoofd in het zand. De Europese Unie is er juist voor alle burgers en heeft invloed op ontelbaar veel zaken die wij dagelijks tegenkomen. Het instituut wat ze doen er waar ze voor staan en de mensen die er werken moeten veel beter zichtbaar zijn. Maar hoe moeten ze dat bereiken? Welke vragen heeft u over de EU?<br /><br />Nico Wegter voormalig directeur van de Europese Commissie in Den Haag en gedeputeerde Dick Buursink met Europa in zijn portefeuille gaan over deze onderwerpen het gesprek aan met alle inwoners van Overijssel. De inleiding zal worden verzorgd door Thea Van Schaik (67) uit Ommen. Zij is ambassadrice voor Europa nadat zij enkele jaren geleden inzag hoe belangrijk de Europese Unie is voor iedereen. Sindsdien zet zij zich met hart en ziel in voor de bekendheid van dit gro(o)t(s)e instituut.<br /><br />Het gesprek wordt geleid door Henk Jan Karsten. Direct dialogue between the Commission and the Chinese authorities on climate change sustainable development trade and human rights<br />The news<br /><br />President Barroso will lead a group of nine Commissioners (S. Dimas A. Piebalgs J. Poto?nik B. Ferrero-Waldner P. Mandelson L. Michel V. S M. Kuneva and L. Kovács) to open a dialogue with the Chinese PM Wen Jiabao and the Chinese government that will focus on the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.<br /><br />Also at this meeting President Barroso and Prime Minister Wen will launch an EU-China High Level Economic and Trade Mechanism. Proposed by the Chinese authorities and approved at the EU-China Beijing summit in November 2007 this mechanism will provide a new tool for dealing with the problems confronting European companies trying to establish themselves in China especially in the fields of investment market access and protection of intellectual property rights.<br /><br />Issues concerning human rights and freedom of expression will also be discussed. The Commission has always had a very frank dialogue with China on these matters. The recent events in Tibet are a further reason to speak about them.<br />The background<br /><br />On track to become the biggest economy in the world China is already the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases according to some indicators; this position will doubtless be confirmed and consolidated in the years to come. The Commission therefore believes that it is essential to get China to commit itself to fighting climate change.<br /><br />In response to the Commission's proposals in January 2007 all the Heads of State and Government committed themselves to reducing the EU's emissions by 20% between now and 2020 or by 30% under an international agreement. Regional Environment Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) and Central European University (CEU) workshop<br /><br />The objective of the workshop is to assess the first stages of development that the Green Investment Scheme in the countries-sellers have undergone in a the recent time both from prospective buyers and sellers points of view draw the first conclusions and the assist the eligible Parties to develop the Schemes further in the spirit of cooperation. The workshop will provide a forum where the buyers' and sellers' positions can be discussed problems in the implementation of the GIS can be identified and the solutions found. The workshop will focus on cooperation between buyers and sellers of AAUs as well as among the selling countries. The capacity building needs and ways to meet these needs will be identified and discussed. Het PvdA-juristennetwerk nodigt u uit voor een bijeenkomst over het Verdrag van Lissabon. Sprekers zijn WBS-directeur Monica Sie Flora Goudappel van de Erasmus universiteit en een lid van de PvdA Europacommissie.<br /><br />Op 13 december 2007 hebben de EU-leiders het Verdrag van Lissabon ondertekend. Daarmee kwam een einde aan jaren van onderhandelingen over bestuurskwesties. Het Verdrag van Lissabon is een aanpassing geen vervanging van de huidige EU- en EG-verdragen. GIOVE-B the second GALILEO experimental satellite will be launched on top of a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Sunday 27 April 2008 00.15 CET (04.15 Baikonur local time). The satellite is built by a consortium led by EADS Astrium GmbH under contract to the European Space Agency. The satellite will be injected into orbit after 3 hours and 35 mn and will arrive at its final working position 6 hours and 59 mn after its lift off. The Launch and Early Orbit phase will be directly monitored via the Fucino control station in Italy some 150 km east from Rome.<br /><br />Giove-B will carry critical new technologies to be tested in space and needed for the performances of the Galileo system. In particular it will embark the most accurate atomic clock ever flown in space. Galileo once fully deployed will comprise a constellation of 30 satellites with a network of ground stations.Achtergrond<br />The mission of GIOVE-B will continue the work started by the first GALILEO satellite GIOVE-A manufactured by Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited (SSTL) and launched in December 2005 but with a satellite more closely representative of the design of those planned for the operational Galileo constellation. GIOVE-B will carry a high-precision passive maser atomic clock - the most accurate clock ever flown into space - and will be capable of triple-channel transmission of navigation signals. The satellite will also transmit a signal complying with a specific standard (Multiplexed Binary Offset Code - MBOC) for the Open Signals of Galileo and GPS-III in accordance with an agreement reached only a few months ago by the European Union and the United States.<br /><br />The In-Orbit-Validation phase (IOV) of which GIOVE-B is part is paid for 50-50 by the European Space Agency and the European Union.<br /><br />In the next step of the IOV phase the first four operational Galileo satellites will be launched. These satellites will be fully representative of the 30 satellites of the entire Galileo constellation. Each will broadcast precise time signals ephemeris and other navigation and commercial data. The procurement for the remaining 26 satellites and associated ground control infrastructure entirely financed by the European Union will be tendered in the months to come with the European Space Agency acting as the procurement agent.Bijeenkomst<br />Vice President Jacques Barrot and ESA Director-General Jean-Jacques Dordain will observe the launch event from Fucino (150 km east from Rome) together with invited Ministers Members of the European Parliament and guests from industry. The Commission will publish its spring economic forecasts for 2007-2009 including on economic growth inflation employment and the general government debt and deficits.<br /><br />For 2008 the Commission last forecast an economic growth of 1.8% for the euro area and 2.0% for the EU.
