Innovative Food Safety eLearning CourseCooperative Extension Launches Innovative Food Safety eLearn ing Course The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) food employee regulation states that food establishments regulated by the PDA or a local health agency must employ at least one supervisory employee who has successfully completed a food safety training course. Today persons working in the food industry have another choice of how to receive their training. Food service workers will now be able to be trained in required food safety training via a new eLearning food safety course - the TAP Series. The course offered by Penn State Cooperative Extension will help establishments fulfill the PDA's requirement for either certification or recertification. This on-line training program provides a self-paced learning experience from home or work and allows flexibility in the amount of time needed to complete the course. The course uses a CD-Rom and requires internet access. Once the applicant has completed the online training they may sit for their test at the Monroe County Cooperative Extension office in Stroudsburg on one of the following dates\; August 15, September 29, October 27, November 24 or December 22. The cost for the certification course is $135 and the cost for recertification is $75. To learn more about this innovative online training, go to http://pike.extension.psu.edu/Nutrition/FoodSafetyTraining.p df to view a brochure or call the Monroe County Cooperative Extension office at 570-421-6430.

Promise Land CCC ReunionSaturday 16th: 9:00am-3:00pm CCC Reunion 8:00pm PGC: Otters CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS REUNION TO BE HELD AT PROMISED LAND STATE PARK The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) will hold their annual reunion on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Promised Land State Park in Pike County, Pennsylvania. All Civilian Conservation Corps members, their families and friends, as well as the general public are invited to attend. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of CCC Camp S-139 at Promised Land. From 1933 to 1941, hundreds of young men served with the Civilian Conservation Corps at Promised Land. The "CCC Boys" were responsible for construction of many structures still seen today including the Park Museum, Blacksmith Shop and Twelve Rustic Cabins. Members fought forest fires, built roads and planted trees resulting in the reforestation of much of Pike County. Their efforts are evident throughout the Park. A special invitation is extended to all former members of the CCC from camps throughout the United States. The public is invited to attend. A formal program will be held at the Park Auditorium at 11:00 AM. Registration will start at 9:00 AM near the Park Auditorium. The event includes memorabilia displays at the Park Museum and Blacksmith Shop, time to tour Camp S-139 and an update on recent park projects. Our guest speaker(s) this year are the alumni themselves. They have been asked to share an anecdotal story about their life in a CCC camp. Some fellas had never been away from home, many couldn't remember the last time they had not felt hungry, and several had never used a shovel or rake before. It was a learning experience and an adventure. One of the many programs conducted during the Great Depression to provide jobs for the country's working class, the CCC also gave the country's natural resources a boost. Come hear how this well-remembered time period shaped our country and its citizens. Mark your calendar and plan to attend this very special event! Take a step back in time and relive that special period when the Civilian Conservation Corps members were hard at work turning Promised Land State Park into the treasured resource we know and love today. See you at the Park! For directions and more information, call the Promised Land State Park Office at (570) 676-3428 or write to Promised Land State Park, RD 1, Box 96, Greentown, PA 18426. E-mails are also welcome through promisedlandenvedsp@state.pa.us. IF YOU NEED AN ACCOMMODATION TO PARTICIPATE IN PARK ACTIVITIES DUE TO A DISABILITY, PLEASE CONTACT THE PARK OFFICE: (570) 676-3428 OR 570-558-2711 (LOCAL OR INTERNATIONAL TTY) OR 800-654-5984 (PA AT&T RELAY SERVICE)
