Clif Bar 2 Mile Challenge Homecoming *Come see the Clif 2 Mile Challenge tour at the Homecoming Party and Alternative Transporation Expo. Walk through the retro BioDiesel-fueled bus and map out your 2 Mile Lifestyle. REI will be on hand for bike safety checks and the East Bay Bike Coalition will provide free bike valet! Cesar Chavez Street Design Workshop *Join your neighbors in imagining a better, healthier, more bike-friendly Cesar Chavez Street at this design workshop. The Planning Department will be presenting two preliminary design proposals that reflect public comment at an earlier workshop in May. This workshop will offer an opportunity for you to comment and help shape these proposals for the reconfiguration of Cesar Chavez Street. 17th Street Bike Lanes Committee MeetingJoin our newly re-energized 17th St. Committee as we work on bringing a much-needed cross-town bike lane to the City. Sunday Streets! *The SFBC is extremely excited to be a part of San Francisco's first truly car-free event: Sunday Streets, which will open up 5 miles of streets for cyclists, pedestrians, children, dog walkers, dancers, skaters and anyone else who wants to use the streets as they have never before — to play! Enjoy open space along Washington Street, the Embarcadero, Terry Francois Blvd. Illinois and 3rd Streets, with the route lined with activities for all to enjoy. There will be two Sunday Streets events this summer: August 31 and September 14, 2008. Learn more at the Sunday Streets website. Volunteer to lead a Bike Bus to Sunday Streets! The SFBC is looking to you to lead group rides to the Sunday Streets on August 31 and September 14. It's a great way for experienced cyclists and newbies to show up in style. Just like Bike to Work Day, with a little organizing and promotion, you can bring in a group of riders from a coffee shop or other location in your neighborhood and ride together to enjoy the car-free day along the Waterfront. Bike Ed - Day One: Street SkillsThis four hour in-classroom courses teach the basics of safe and enjoyable cycling, including riding in traffic, necessary equipment, crash avoidance, and legal rights and responsibilities. Open to adults 14 and over. Bicycle not required, but please bring your dinner. Note: this is the "day 1" course for League of American Bicyclists' Bike Ed Road I certification. Each class is free, but you must register.

SFBC's 2nd Annual Family DayJoin the SFBC, and SFBC families like yours, as we enjoy a car-free Healthy Saturday in the park with fun bike-y family activities, including the SFBC's monthly Freedom From Training Wheels group effort to get our kids riding on two-wheels, a Bike Road-eo course that teaches two-wheelers with and without training wheels basic bike skills. Show-off your baby bike seats, trail-a-bikes, bike trailers and Xtracyles (or however your family gears up), and get advice from other families at our Family Biking Showcase, and participate in games, a bike parade, a scavenger hunt, and more! Monthly Pothole Sweep - SOMAJoin the SFBC Lane Stewards on our fun-filled monthly pothole ride, the first Saturday of the month. Our goals are to have fun, mark every pothole, crack and trench we see with spray paint, report them to 311, and repeat! On our August ride, we marked over 80 pavement hazards in under 2 hours! And the Department of Public Works has been quick to respond and fix our roads. Following our heroic undertaking, we'll celebrate with brunch at location TBD. Care to join us? Film Night in the Park *Come escape into a world of idyllic Italian countrysides and poetry with IL POSTINO (1994) in San Francisco's Italian backyard of North Beach at Washington Square Park. Film presented free of charge on a giant outdoor screen and you are encouraged to picnic before the screening. Free valet bike parking provided.

Bike Kitchen Tune-Up class *This class will meet for three Mondays in September (8th, 15th, and 22nd) and will be limited to 8 people. Class will be hands-on, so bring a bike and get ready to get greasy. Over the 3 weeks, it will cover what is included in a basic shop tune-up: installing and removing tubes and tires (i.e. fixing a flat), installing brake and shift cables, adjusting brakes and gears, chain maintenance, truing wheels, etc. The fee for this class is sliding scale: $40-80 for current Bike Kitchen members or $70-110 for non Bike Kitchen members (although a year-long membership comes with the class). Each great project is showcased with its designer(s) via an "open house" format, and tour participants have the opportunity to see some of the city's latest residential projects from the inside out, meet with project designers, explore housing trends, and discover design solutions that inspire unique San Francisco living. Different Spokes Monthly Jersey Ride *Come join Different Spokes (DSSF), the San Francisco Bay Area's GLBT cycling club for our monthly Jersey Ride, held the second Saturday of each month. You do not have to have/wear our jersey to join the ride, all are welcome. The ride offers different distance and level options. The ride starts from Peet's in the Castro. There are three options so you can go at your own pace and distance, so please pick the appropriate option to your level of ability, we want to make sure you enjoy the day. Bike MS: Waves to Wine 25th Anniversary Ride: Day 1 *The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Northern California Chapter will hold its annual Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride from September 13th to 14th to raise more than $1.5 million for critical MS research and vital programs and services. Day 1 goes from SF to Rohnert Park, and you'll be able to fuel up and stay hydrated approximately every 12 miles at rest stops, along with a lunch stop. Each day is 75 miles but will also feature a shorter option of 40-50 mile route for the recreational cyclist as well as a longer century for those who like the challenge. Critical Manners *Critical Manners: a revolutionary act of courtesy. Come put the nice back in the bike world with critical manners! A helmet-wearing, bell-ringing, blinkie-sportin' good time for you and all your bike friends. Practice synchronized signaling, stopping at stop signs and NOT blowing red lights. Critical Manners is a great introduction for riders who haven't ridden in an urban setting before as well as experienced riders who enjoy group rides. Bike Ed - Day Two: On The RoadThis six hour on-road course provides an opportunity to put into practice what was learned in the day 1 Street Skills course, and thus complete the League's Bike Ed Road I certification. We will be practicing emergency maneuvers, and riding in various traffic conditions to test your knowledge of vehicular cycling skills. Open to adults 14 and over. Bicycle, helmet and pre-registration required. Please also bring your lunch. Prerequisite: Day 1 Street Skills Course.

SFBC Bike Doctors at 8th Annual Sunset Community FestivalThe festival will also include exhibits and entertainment that celebrate the neighborhood's successes, will feature exhibits highlighting all that is "green" which will help community members learn how to better manage natural resources and control wastem and ensure that the greater Sunset community will continue to be a safe, family-friendly environment that is culturally, socially and economically inclusive. Of course, we will continue the tradition of providing a truly fantastic, delightful day in the Sunset with live performances, fun activities, great food, and much, much more. The SFBC's Bike Doctors will be doing free minor bike maintenance from lubing chains and adjusting seats to fixing flats. To volunteer, contact kate@sfbike.org.
