Colonial ConnectionThis summer the children and youth living at Colonial Apartm ents are going to summer school to increase their use and understanding of English. At the request of the Virginia Council of Churches we will be transporting the elementary and middle school students from school to their homes. This gives us the great opportunity to spend a couple hours each day to help the kids improve their English use. We look forward to this opportunity because by helping the children and youth with their conversational English, they will be able to participate more fully in the church's activities. We will also be able to forge stronger relationships with the kids and their families. Beginning June 24th we will be going to Colonial Apartments (5500 Pony Farm Dr. Richmond, VA 23227) to meet with the students. We will meet at the main entrance to the apartment complex. The time will be from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. We will need drivers, organizers, volunteers to communicate with the kids, toys (soccer balls, volleyballs, playground balls, etc.), and board games. If you are interested in being a part of this wonderful ministry please speak to the staff or email Eric Hasha at eric@tbcrichmond.org. Thank you for your support of the youth/children in the church. We look forward to seeing what God does through this ministry this summer and how it will foster growth for the future.

TBC hosting Duane Binkley, Missionary to the KarenDear Stable Roots, Youth, and Children's team. I wrote thi s e-mail to Duane Binkley this morning. This is a wonderful opportunity to soak up information about our Karen Family Members. Please take a look and let me know if you are available on Saturday. Dear Friends, We are truly excited about Duane's upcoming visit to Richmond! I'm heading out of town for a week's vacation but wanted to put this out there so that you could give it some thought. It sounds like we will be sharing the expense of Duane's room alongside the Virginia Council of Churches and anticipate him staying in the same hotel throughout his visit. We are assuming that he is driving his own vehicle but please let us know if something has changed with transportation needs. This visit, in many ways, is an answer to prayer for our congregation and many others. Friday: Sounds like Duane will be in the conference at FBC the majority of the day. Virginia Council of Churches (Heather Gomez) will be the host for the day. Saturday: We would like to have a group of folks from Tabernacle and other various congregations meet with Duane for a couple of hours to field questions, educate on the Karen culture, and offer practical wisdom. (I'll need a couple of our folks to help organize this conversation as I'm out of the loop for the day with a baby dedication in Washington D.C.) Saturday evening: VCC is asking some of the Karen women to prepare a meal for Duane and about 15 folks. This will give him an opportunity to meet with the community. Sunday morning: We would love for Duane to come to our Karen Sunday School Class to converse and help us engage in a conversation. I'm thinking that the two of us can sit on stools on the platform and the sermon can be a Q&A of some kind. I can submit the questions in advance so you are surprised. You could also ask me questions if you want to? I would be especially interested in Duane telling the story of how Baptist came to Burma and anywhere he sees God at work in the camps and here state-side. Richmond now has a translator which may be willing to join us. I'm not sure if this would make things easier for Duane as he could opt to translate in the service. However, I'm thinking that a third voice for the Q&A might make things easier for him. We will podcast the service and I"ll ask Austin, the translator, to record a translation into Karen so that folks can hear it. We're more than happy to offer a quick meal but also understand if he wants to hit the road as soon he finishes at the church. Please consider this a rough draft as we genuinely want some feedback. I'm copying some of our folks on this e-mail to ask everyone the same question.... Any thoughts? Sterling W. Paige Neely's Baby Dedication ServiceDear Children's Team,We have scheduled Paige Neely's baby dedication service for Sunday, September 7th. Can one of you please stop by my office and pick up Renee's folder on child dedications. I think it would be a good idea for the team to review her thoughts and play a key role in the dedication. Looking forward to many more of these to come. grace and peace, Sterling
