TBS Community Open HouseTemple Beth Shalom will sponsor an evening of activities on Friday, August 22 to celebrate Shabbat and showcase the range of programs available to Temple members and the Jewish community. Over the past year, TBS has enhanced its services and educational programs and these will be on display. The evening's activities will begin at 5:30p.m. with tours of the building and classrooms. New Educational Director, Rabbi Arielle Hanien, and Education Vice-President John Williams will be on hand to answer questions about plans for the Torah School and the new monthly Family Shabbatons. For more information, please contact the Office at 562-426-6413. A dairy Pot-Luck Dinner will follow at 6:15 outdoors on the patio. Members are asked to bring a dairy or parve dish to serve 8 to 10 people, while visitors are invited to come as guests. An early Shabbat outdoor dinner is a wonderful, informal way to learn about the congregation and to meet current members, as well as Rabbi Gartenberg and congregation leaders. After dinner, members and guests will be treated to a joyous, musical Shabbat service in the beautiful, newly redone Sanctuary. Cantor Roni Kripper will lead a new musical ensemble that encourages participants to celebrate the joy of Shabbat with singing, clapping, and rhythm instruments. For those who have never attended Shul House Rock, it will be an exciting new experience. Afterwards, Sisterhood will sponsor an Oneg Shabbat in the Temple Social Hall that will allow members and guest to enjoy dessert and visit friends and neighbors. Visitors will be able to learn more about Temple Beth Shalom, the only egalitarian Conservative congregation in Long Beach. The Temple is located at 3635 Elm Ave. Membership Chair Josh Kaplan will welcome inquiries. He can also be reached at 562-799-9756. Those interested in attending are asked to call the Temple Office at 562-426-6413. More information on Temple Beth Shalom is available on the website: www.tbslb.org.
