8. How do I subscribe to calendars?
All calendars come with a public calendar or webcal address. This means that you can subscribe to a calendar instead of downloading a file and adding this file to you application. The great advantage of subscribing is that new or adjusted events in that calendar will be automatically adjusted and added to your calendar! All you need is a calendar application that supports the iCalendar standard. There are several excellent calendar applications available for every major operating system.

Macintosh: iCal, Mozilla Calendar, Sunbird, Zimbra
Windows: Vista Calendar, Microsoft Works (Version 8 or higher), Mozilla Calendar, Sunbird, Zimbra
Linux: Novell Evolution, KOrganizer, Kronolith, Mozilla Calendar, Sunbird, and Zimbra

And of course a few great online calendar tools like Google Calendar, 30Boxes and Epointment. up

9. What if syncing with my PDA doesn’t work as expected?
We have received reports from users that the synchronization between their PDA and Outlook does not work as expected. One of the reported problems is that events, although correctly imported in Outlook, show up in their PDA as all day events or appear to be a day earlier. We do know what causes this problem (read the Pocket PC FAQ) but unfortunately we can’t solve it. up

10. Why don't my externally added calendars in Outlook 2007 sync with my mobile phone or PDA?
If you add a calendar to Outlook 2007 it doesn't sync with your mobile phone or PDA. Only your personal calendar syncs. The solution to get external events synced with you mobile phone or PDA is:
1. Save the file somewhere on your computer
2. Go to "file/import and export/import iCal or vCal file" and select the file you downloaded
3. You then get the following question: "Do you want to open this calendar as a new calendar or import it items into your calendar?" with the options: 'open as new', 'import', 'cancel'
4. When you choose 'import' all events will be added to your personal calendar and because this one syncs with your mobile phone or PDA all events will be added now. up

11. I only see one event of the calendar I added?
You probably opened and saved the file directly after you downloaded it. When you save it directly only the first event of the calendar will be added instead of the complete calendar. When you download the file to your computer first and then import the file in your application you will see all events. up

12. I updated my calendar information in MarkThisDate.com, but its not immediately reflected in my Google calendar, why?
Google's servers cache copies of your MarkThisDate calendar iCal files and then periodically refetch them. This can result in a delay between when you update your MarkThisDate calendar and when the changes appear on your Google calendar. up

Adding calendars of events to MarkThisDate

1. How do I add a calendar to MarkThisDate.com?
There are several ways to add calendars to MarkThisDate:
a. Upload a public calendar address
b. Add a calendar manually
c. CSV upload (contact customer support): for one time uploads of large amounts of events
d. XML interface (API): for companies/websites with a continuous stream of new events up

2. Upload a public calendar address
You have to sign up and log in to upload a public calendar. After you logged in click 'Submit a calendar'. Now you can choose either to add a calendar manually or with a public calendar address (.ics). Calendar files are defined according to standard (toevoegen). Therefore calendar applications can import them. You can recognize these files by their extension, which is .ics. The location of these files is called the public calendar address:
1. Go to “Upload public calendar”
2. Add a calendar name and description. The more precise and accurate the description is the better the calendar can be found and will be indexed by search engines
3. Enter the appropriate public calendar address (beginning with http:// or webcal:// and ending on .ics)
4. Click “Save Calendar”
5. When you are happy with the result click “Publish calendar” up

3. Add a calendar manually
You have to sign up and log in add a calendar. After you logged in click 'Submit a calendar'. Now you can choose either to add a calendar manually or with a public calendar address (.ics). Choose “Add calendar manually” and fill in all of the following fields:

Time zone
First make sure you add the events in the right time zone. You can change the time zone at the top of the form

Calendar name
When you add the name of the calendar it’s best to use a short description or tags like ‘Formula 1 season 2009’

Description
With ‘description’ you can give more information about the calendar and the events that are part of the calendar

Events
A calendar often consists of multiple events. Under ‘events’ you add all the events that are part of your calendar. For example the calendar Formula 1 season 2008 consists of 18 races and therefore your calendar contains 18 events. For every event in your calendar add a title, location, start date and end date and start time and end time.

Title
The title of an event is the actual happening. For instance the World Cup final France-Italy, a concert or the marathon of NY.

Location
The location is not a required field but it can benefit some users of your calendar when you add one. For example if their calendar application support maps (e.g. Google calendar).

Date and time
For every event in your calendar add a start and end date. An event can have a start and and end time, but can be an all day event. A good example of all-day events are holidays like Boxing Day. And also when you don’t know the times but still want to add the events you can add them as all day events. Just put in your description that you don’t know the times…may be someone else does and adds them with a review.

Delete events
When you added an event that you want to delete, just click the button ‘delete’ behind the time boxes.

Add e new event
To add a new event just click ‘add event’ on the bottom of the page for an empty event form.

Save a calendar
To save a calendar just click ‘Save’ on the bottom of the page. Tip: when you’re adding a lot of events, periodically save your calendar because it’s a pity loosing you’re calendar when something unexpected happens.

Publish your calendar
After you added and saved your calendar it’s still not visible and usable. You have to publish your calendar first. After you saved your calendar just click the button ‘publish calendar’ on the top or bottom of the page to publish your calendar to the website. up
